My article on the Web Services Software Factory (Service Factory)

Service Station, by Aaron Skonnard

One of the articles I mentioned here just shipped in the December issue of MSDN Magazine (see the Service Station column) and it's now online for public consumption. Enjoy.

I wrote a sequel to this piece that specifically covers the WCF guidance package in more detail -- it should hit the site in the next month or two.

Aaron: Please keep writing about WCF. IMO, your articles are much better than many others. I bought a few WCF books already and have been wishing you wrote one!

Great articles, just one question regarding the generation of DataContracts from XSD. You wrote in the article:

...you can generate data contract types from the XML schema definition (XSD) itself. ... only it generates [DataContract] types when possible....

I've tried a number of XSD's now, some very simple, and without attributes. But I only get the XmlSerializer type of classes generated for me. Beats me right now...

Weird, I thought I found the reason why it didn't work, because I didn't have the elementFormDefault attribute of the schema set to "qualified". I can generate DataContract classes manually using svcutil.exe, but the recipe in WSSF keeps creating the XmlSerializer class anyway...

Johan, check out these links. Hopefully they will shed some light. The first one is a blog entry of mine: http://blogs.msdn.com/donsmith/archive/2006/10/06/Handcrafting-WCF_2D00_friendly-WSDLs.aspx

... and shortly thereafter, this became available on MSDN: http://windowssdk.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms733112.aspx

Good luck!

If you could print your articles here too, that would be great. The print option at MSDN produces pages with print almost too small to read. A more "accessible" print version is needed.
