OOPSLA

I'm spending the day in Vancouver at OOPSLA.

AndersH and I sat on a Republican vs. Democrat panel that Martin Fowler was moderating. With a couple of exceptions, it was pretty good natured.

My favorite moment was Alan Knight's comment that dynamic languages allow you to program half formed thoughts. I couldn't resist point out that Microsoft has been accused of routinely shipping half formed thoughts and that we've been able to do it just fine using statically typed languages.

It was fun meeting John Crupi, especially after being so influenced by his book's implications.

Finally, it was striking how folks at this conference are really true believers. The ORM folks seem pretty committed. The dynamic language folks seem pretty committed. The IoC folks seem pretty sure that the AOP folks should be committed.

Who was the Republican and who was the Democrat? ;)

I'd just like to say how great it is that your blog now has comments (as opposed to the one back at GDN). You're truly an asset to the community and any method that allows interaction between those of us who breathe smaller quantities of nerd gas and you is truly wonderful.

Anders Hejlsberg may be working on how to migrate features from C-Omega into C#.
