Windows Vista December CTP

I installed the Dec. CTP of Windows Vista on a machine at work this week.

The glowing ORB effects are great eye candy.

I also like Windows Media Player 11, which has some great visualizations over my paltry music library at work.  I need to install it at home and throw it at my 1100+ CD collection.

I also like the upper-right hand search box - I'm using IE7 on all of my boxes and I love the feature.

Don's note is about the Vista CTP - not Innovation. If you think innovation is about "search box top-right" of a browser, it is time to stop attending the committees and hit the books.

Don,
I like those features but were you able to get your video drivers to install and thus the glass look? Unlike previous releases, I and many others could not.

Don likes the innovation of a search box top-right in IE7. I wonder how it compares to the gloriously extensible Firefox Search Engine, or Norm's cool toolbar bookmarklet hack. Seems like 2006 is set see another round of browser and search engine wars, and that can only be a good thing for Joe Surf. Technorati Tags: Firefox, www, Yahoo!...

Don,
All the cool kids are using the Mac - http://www.paulgraham.com/mac.html.

From - http://www.paulgraham.com/mac.html - "If you want to know what ordinary people will be doing with computers in ten years, just walk around the CS department at a good university. Whatever they're doing, you'll be doing."

This is so true JT, in consumer electronic stores, public libraries, at people's homes, everywhere I go; I see Sun Workstations as far as the eye can see. And SGI boxes, sorry.

Cool kids use what makes them productive. Bullies (who sometimes think they are cool kids) don’t understand this but keep telling others what 'cool kids' are using.

And pointy-haired bosses always pick the safe bet - http://www.paulgraham.com/icad.html. Which one are you? Sorry, couldn't resist :-).

If we are talking "truth" then given the "fact" that Microsoft is a convicted monopolist (speaking of Bullies :-) this was upheld on appeal) - http://www.usdoj.gov/atr/cases/f3800/msjudgex.htm - one could argue their past monopolist behavior got them into every public library, home, store, etc.

Heck now-a-days they don't even have to update their software for years on end (Vista, SQL 2005, IE). As they say "it's good to be the king"....
