XCOPY deprecated - long live Robocopy!

I was recently surprised when I was working on a virgin Vista machine and found robocopy was already there.

I assumed it was part of the MS IT standard internal install of Vista.

I just noticed that when you run xcopy /? you get this:

C:\>xcopy /?|more
Copies files and directory trees.

NOTE: Xcopy is now deprecated, please use Robocopy.

Wow!

Also interesting (and expected) is that the Vista build of Robocopy no longer has kevina's email address in the /??? message.

It's showing the same on a retail Vista with SP1 RC. It's about time since robocopy is just that much more useful. It's nice to see some more internal tools make it into the product.

Finally! Robocopy has always been my copy tool of choice. It's like a t-bone to xcopy's beef wellington.

Huh! What do you know. I'm sitting on a Toshiba machine I bought about three months ago and just typed robocopy and sure enough, there it is! I actually use xcopy for some small backups to a USB drive, so now I can use robocopy. How about that...

I luurrve both utilities in fact one day I had a 3sum with them. It was strange though, they both tried to copy each others actions.
