I'm starting to hear a lot of questions about SQL Mobile and scalability. Specifically people want to know how to maximize the scalability of SQL Mobile and what factors they need to be aware of that affect scalability.

Some of the most common questions I hear are

  • What are the maximum number of records that a SQL Mobile table can handle?
  • Does the specific choice of storage media affect performance?
  • Are there SQL Mobile specific indexing considerations when designing tables?
  • How does the performance of the new SqlCeResultSet compare to the DataSet?
  • What's the absolute fastest way to position to a record within a large table?

Because these questions come up so often and each answer is best described in at least a little detail, I've added a new section SQL Mobile Scalability to the Using SQL Mobile Page on the Channel 9 Windows Mobile Wiki.

Hopefully you'll find the answers there useful. If you additional scalability questions feel free to post them here as feedback. And if you'd like share some of the things you've learned about working with the scalability of SQL Mobile please add them to the Using SQL Mobile Page.
