I have a new job!!!

No, I've not left Microsoft, but I do have a new role; I'm now a Program Manager on the IndigoWindows Communication Foundation product team. More specifically, I'm a PM on the Security Team focusing on the area of Authorization. I've actually been in this role since late May but it just got announced internally, so I figure it's OK to blog about it now…

I now report to Doug Purdy which is cool. Doug is an
über PM on IndigoWCF, there's not much in the product on the XML Messaging side that Doug doesn't have some current involvement in or had some involvement in in the past. This is just one reason he's a great guy to have as my manager. Another reason is that whenever I ask him, 'How are you?', he invariably replies 'If I was any better, I'd be you', which always makes me feel great :-)

Doug (and other members of my team) are helping me adapt to the role of being a PM on a feature team, which requires a somewhat different set of skills than my previous roles. Not completely different, but nevertheless I still have stuff I need to learn.

All in all I'm very pleased with my new role and am already enjoying the challenge it provides.

Oh no, Gudge has gone to the dark side? How does a human schema editor become a security feature manager? 8-)

However, congratulations from me, and best luck getting some security into MS code! 8-)

Congrats mate!
Does this mean I won't be seeing you in Tampa/November?

Hey man! Congrats! Does this mean that you'd be able to encrypt/decrypt SOAP messages on the fly now? :-))

See you soon!

Jacek, I've been operating mainly in the security space for a while now although the product piece is brand new to me. And I still get to do schema work sometimes ;-)

Ian, yes, I'm afraid this does mean I won't be in Tampa in November. Are you going to make PDC this year?

Savas, unfortunately, although my wetware schema processor is pretty good, my equivalent crypto implementation still needs some work. I am trying to make sure that my 8 year old can find large prime factors though ;-)

All of you, thanks for the congrats, much appreciated!

Sadly I won't be making PDC, I'll be in Florence that week - some of my friends have terrible timing when it comes to getting married..

One of these days we'll be on the same continent in roughly the same area again!

Ian,

Sorry to hear you won't be at PDC, but enjoy Florence mate. Lovely place. Took Hayley there for a long weekend for her 30th birthday.
