What We Love About Working in IT...

As IT pros, there are days we love our jobs and days we wish our gadget addictions paid for themselves, so we'd never again have to show someone where to find the power button. Good and bad, it's Valentine's Day, so it's a perfect time to reflect on the things we love (and also "love") about IT:

That no matter how much I read or learn, I'm never getting ahead. I'm just keeping up.

I "love" troubleshooting my family's computers, my friends' computer, my family's friends' computers and complete strangers' computers...all for free, because I have nothing else better to do with my time.

--Scott Skinger, TrainSignal Founder and CEO

I "love" getting distracted with TV shows and movies with totally unrealistic technology, like where they crack strong encryption in just a couple of keystrokes.

But seriously, I love that there is always something new to learn and mentoring/advising those new to IT.

--David Davis, TrainSignal instructor and virtualization expert

I love how it's both ego-boosting and ego-crushing. One minute you are the hero who makes everything works, and the next minute you are crawling around on hands and knees searching for the power.

--Heather Ackmann, TrainSignal instructor and Microsoft MVP

What I love most about working with cutting edge technology is the fact I can figure things out as I go and still look like an expert to the untrained eye. Unfortunately, most of those I work with have VERY trained eyes!

--John O'Neill Sr., TrainSignal "iPads in the Enterprise" course instructor and blog contributor

I love IT because I can totally relate it to real life. People are like computers, network is the relationship that people share and storage represents the memories of all the good things you've done in life!

--Kunal D. Mehta, Systems Engineer at Technofocus  Solutions and TrainSignal blog contributor

When I'm in an actual IT setting, I love feeling like the dumbest guy in the room.

--Chris Graham, Systems Administrator at TrainSignal
