Our new Player Card is designed to provide a condensed view of core individual metrics across code, submit, and review contributions.
Our mission at GitPrime is to provide visibility into the ground truth of what’s happening in the development process in a way that’s both meaningful and actionable for software teams. At times, this means taking a hard look at existing reports through a jobs-to-be-done lens and re-evaluating how the metrics are presented.
When we heard, for example, that managers and directors wanted a way to track trends and targets over time in the code review process, we built the Review and Submit Fundamentals. There were no new metrics presented, only a more optimized view of existing metrics for a specific use case.
When we buy a product, we essentially “hire” it to help us do a job.”
Clayton ChristensenAuthor of The Innovator’s Dilemma
Similarly, when we discovered that engineers wanted a way to visualize their progress on core metrics— and managers wanted to easily pull up a report that would inform their 1:1s or quarterly reviews — we built the Player Card.
The Player Card shows a condensed view of an individual’s metrics, including:
- The core metrics included in the Code, Review, and Submit Fundamentals, which help to understand progress over time relative,
- The Work Log, which is particularly helpful to understand the “shape of someone’s day” across all work types, and
- The individual’s Review Workflow, which provides an insightful view of how collaborative engineers are in the review process.
With the Player Card, it’s now possible to have a better understanding of what’s going on before you enter a meeting, or before you go ahead and shoulder-tap someone to ask. Now, when a manager asks you why you want to promote someone, you can simply pull up a report and use the data to help you tell the story. That’s why GitPrime exists. We build reports that are designed to build understanding around how software teams work, effectively making it easier to advocate for your team.
