Veeam Availability Suite: Implementing VM Data Protection (VMCE)

Courses in this path explore the installation, configuration, and management of a Veeam Availability Suite environment, including the implementation and use of Veeam Backup and Replication. These courses discuss backing up, recovering, and replicating VM workloads atop VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V. While not intended as exam preparation, these courses align with objectives and tasks associated with the Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) certification.

Description

For so very long, backups in IT were a thankless job where nobody cared if you did everything right, and everyone knows when you did something wrong. Backup solutions in the old days also weren't all that...well...good. You'd usually have success in restoring the occasional file and folder, but restoring an entire computer wasn't always a successful activity. Veeam changed all that by redirecting the perspective of backups from files and folders to the virtual hard disk. What results is a solution that reduces the number of backed up files you have to manage while improving backup performance and greatly reducing the potential for restoration failure. Now, all you've got to do is get it set up. In this first course out of three, Introduce and Implement Veeam Backup and Replication, you'll first get an introduction to the Veeam Backup and Replication server architecture. Next, you'll take a look at the role of perspective in VM data protection. Finally, you'll explore the proxy server and backup repository server configurations that first get deployed to begin your Veeam implementation. By the end of this course, your virtual infrastructure will be ready with the services it needs to begin backing up, replicating, and restoring all manner of VM data.

Description

Veeam Backup and Replication, like any solution you probably want for backups is a dead simple tool for accomplishing the task. But even dead simple tools still require a little instruction on how they approach the backup and recovery process. Knowing how exactly to use these tools to ensure greatest success is part of using them correctly. Actually using Veeam Backup and Replication for Backup and Replication -- and restores -- is the theme for our conversation here. In this second course out of three, Backup, Recover, and Replicate Workloads with Veeam Backup and Replication, you'll begin by being introduced to the architecture of Veeam's backups, getting to know the three unique methods that Veeam can use to store data. Armed with this information, you'll configure and execute a series of backup jobs, exploring the variety of ways that backup jobs can be configured. Next, you'll extend your reach by configuring replication jobs to a secondary disaster recovery site. Then, you'll restore that data, whether it be entire VMs all the way down to individual files. Finally, having done all these activities atop the VMware vSphere hypervisor, you'll see their similarities and differences atop Microsoft's Hyper-V. By the end of this course, you'll be armed with the experience you need to backup, replicate, and recover any virtual or physical workload using your Veeam Backup and Replication infrastructure.

Description

With our first two courses now complete, you've now explored the length and breadth of Veeam Backup and Replication. But, you're not yet complete with all the ancillary, other services that Veeam provides to integrate with its core product. In this course, Integrate Veeam Availability Suite Components, you will explore the advanced topics in Veeam's product portfolio, with a detailed discussion on the Veeam ONE monitoring platform, the Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager web-based solution, and a deep-dive into the advanced testing and lab-building solutions one gets with SureBackup, SureReplica, and On-demand Sandbox. First, you'll begin by exploring SureBackup and its accompanying features in SureReplica and On-demand Sandbox. These three related solutions offer a clever way to address one of the biggest historical issues in data protection: Testing the backups. Next, you'll take a peek at the Veeam ONE monitoring platform, an incredibly useful tool not just for monitoring Veeam, but also your hypervisor infrastructure. Finally, you'll explore the web-based interfaces surfaced by Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager, and how this web-based solution can aggregate separate Veeam infrastructures under a single pane of glass. By the end of this course, you'll be prepared to monitor your Veeam platform and extend its administrative reach to others in your IT organization.
