Building Multidimensional Models in SSAS

by Stacia Misner Varga

This course leads you through the necessary steps to create a multidimensional model, explains essential concepts unique to online analytical processing, and shows you how to manage data storage and model updates on an ongoing basis.

What you'll learn

An SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) multidimensional model provides a much better data structure for analysis than a traditional relational model, but you need a completely different set of skills. In this course, Building Multidimensional Models in SSAS, you will learn the foundational knowledge needed to build a complete multidimensional model from a simplified data warehouse stored in SQL Server relational tables. First, you will discover how to properly prepare your data for use in a multidimensional model and will be introduced to key terms and concepts applicable to generic dimensional modeling. Next, you will learn how to build out the core components of a multidimensional model with an emphasis on practical application. Finally, you will explore the Analysis Services features that help you optimize the query performance, management operations, and data storage efficiency of the multidimensional model. When you are finished with this course, you will have the skills and knowledge of SSAS multidimensional modeling needed to load your own data into dimensions and cubes for reporting and analysis.
