Pluralsight Flow announces new value stream analytics and team health tools

June 28, 2022

Pluralsight Flow was designed from the ground up with the developer experience as the driving force for every innovation we create. We understand that improving overall dev satisfaction and organizational production involves a holistic approach. This is why we’re so excited about the latest updates rolling out for Flow.

Now, when you log into Flow for the first time or the five-thousandth time, you’ll discover a brand new homepage experience, a much more robust Sprint Movement dashboard, and our exciting new Team Health Insights. Let’s take a look at what these updates mean for you and your teams.

Pluralsight Flow’s new homepage

Flow’s new home experience is designed to help you get the most out of the platform. Your homepage is customized based on your role level and how you use Flow. You can use the Flow homepage to see relevant thought leadership articles and content from Pluralsight, track metrics relevant for you, and quickly navigate to reports to see additional details pertinent to your daily work.

You now have the ability to select your role based on your day-to-day responsibilities as well as the objectives you wish to accomplish using Flow, such as removing roadblocks for your team, growing in your career, or hiring and retaining top talent.

You also have the ability to select your team and date range, allowing you to focus on the people and timeframe most important to your work. Lastly, Flow will pre-select necessary metrics based on your previous answers, simplifying your setup process.

You’ll then find several sections of your homepage designed to improve your overall user experience:

  • Resources for you highlights content, such as Pluralsight podcasts and blog posts, based on your role level and use case.

  • Flow reports surfaces recommended Flow reports based on your setup selections and includes recently used Flow reports.

  • At the bottom of Flow home, you can see the metrics you selected when customizing home. Click Go to report to view more details within the report.

You’ll also discover important information connected to Team Health Insights, another new tool.

A holistic approach to Team Health

Team Health Insights deliver a deeper understanding of how your team is communicating as well as how well your processes are working. This information helps you investigate and diagnose potential issues as well as see where your team is succeeding.

Team Health Insights shows your team’s work across a collection of ten coding and collaboration metrics across three categories. These metrics give you visibility into your team’s activity in commits and PRs across three categories: culture, activity, and efficiency.

There are a few ways to approach deciding which metrics to view depending on your goals for the report:

  • Decide which metrics you want to drive change on for your team, then deselect all other metrics

  • Select one metric from each of the categories to get a more holistic view

  • Select only commit metrics to do a deep-dive into coding practices

  • Select only PR collaboration metrics to see how your team is collaborating

Understanding the intricacies of how your team works when they’re at their most productive provides valuable insight for leaders and executives, and also enables you to better advocate for your employees. The Team Health Insights create a more transparent and collaborative environment for all of your technology teams.

Sprint Movement & improved delivery

The Sprint Movement report helps you improve your team’s efficiency by tracking how much work your team is completing and adding during your sprints. Sprint Movement provides a visual analysis of your team’s completion and scope added percentages over the course of one or more sprints.

We’ve previously done a deep dive on improving your delivery success rate with Sprint Movement but the high-level goal of the report is to more easily track how well your team accomplishes goals they’ve set while also providing ways to help them stay focused. Sprint Movement enables you to evaluate your sprints over time so you can compare how well your implemented processes are working. Looking at planned vs. completed work for sprints doesn’t tell the complete picture of success during that time frame.

When work gets added, bugs come up, or reviews need to be completed, these things need to be measured as well so they can be improved upon. By seeing how these aspects affect work over time, managers can better advocate for their teams and provide them the resources they need to succeed.
