Planet of the Apes Featurette Shows Weta's Oscar Worthy

Weta Digital has released another impressive behind-the-scenes video of the making of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes just in time for the up coming Oscars. The film is shortlisted as one of the ten other nominees for Best VFX work in a feature film, along with Interstellar, Guardians of the Galaxy, and others. The video discusses the challenges Weta had in making the apes as believable and nuanced as the live action actors who they performed with. It also discuss the innovation of performance capture equipment and methods that had to deal with the rain forest environments where scenes where shot. This included developing wireless technology for cameras and beefing up the performance capture markers for stunts.
