Course Overview
Welcome to Pluralsight, my name is Elias Khnaser, and I'd like to welcome you to my course, Amazon Web Services Certified SysOps Administrator Associate. AWS is the world's leading cloud platform provider. It has revolutionized and modernized the way we do IT. Today, AWS certifications are the hottest and most sought-after in the industry, especially for individuals interested in the role of cloud architect, cloud engineer, or cloud administrator. Some of the major topics that we'll cover in this course include in-depth VPC configuration, configuring Elastic Load Balancer, ELB, configuring Auto Scaling, configuring Route 53, working with Identity and Access Management, and much, much more. By the end of this course, you'll be well prepared to sit and pass the certification exam, and you'll have the knowledge needed to implement various AWS services. However, before beginning this course, you should have a solid understanding of AWS. A great first step to acquiring this knowledge is to complete the Amazon Web Services AWS Fundamentals for System Administrators course on Pluralsight. Understanding Virtual Networking on AWS
Are you guys ready? Are you guys excited? This is going to be a really cool lesson. We're going to be focusing a lot on plumbing. In other words, we're going to be talking about the foundation of any technical environment, which is networking. And in this case, we're going to be talking about virtual networking on AWS. So welcome back to Pluralsight, I'm Elias Khnaser, and in this lesson, we're going to be talking about plumbing, otherwise understanding virtual networking on AWS. So let's go ahead and get started.

In-depth VPC Configuration
In the previous lesson, we used the wizard to create the VPC configuration. In this lesson we're going to focus around VPC configuration in depth. We're going to go ahead and create it manually, and we're going to go through the steps that AWS did automatically on our behalf in the earlier lesson automatically, we're going to go ahead and configure each one of those stacks manually so that we can see the connections that are happening between them and we can get a better understanding of it. Welcome back to Pluralsight, I'm Elias Khnaser, and in this lesson we're going to be focusing on in-depth VPC configuration conversation. Guess how many slides I have in this lesson? You're looking at it. This is the only slide I have in this lesson. No joke. It's this and then the summary slide. So what we're going to do is a lot of hands on, so without further ado let's just jump into the management console and start manually configuring our VPC, our routing tables, et cetera.

Working with Security Groups and NACLs
We are continuing the advanced configuration of the VPC, and in this lesson, we're going to be talking about a topic that we've hinted about, talked about, and discussed several times so far, and it is security groups and network access control lists. We're going to be focusing on that, talking about the differences, how to configure them, where to configure them, and how they differ. Understanding and Configuring VPC Access
So far, we've been configuring VPC. We've been configuring our environment on AWS. We've created instances, we've configured security groups, network access control lists. We've done a lot of internal configuration. What we want to do now is configure access and talk about access to the VPC from the outside world, external access to VPC from your on-premises, from other branches, from other clouds, from another cloud maybe on AWS, another VPC on AWS. EC2 Instance Types
Well you can't build a building without knowing all the building blocks, now can you? You can't build an infrastructure. You can't build an environment on AWS without knowing all of the components, especially the compute component portion. You want to know the different instance types, what can you use them for, etc. Well welcome back to Pluralsight. This is Elias Khnaser, and in this lesson, we're going to be focusing on EC2 Instance Types.

Working with Elastic Block Storage
If you thought compute was the only layer of the stack that was important for performance, think again. Whenever you're dealing with performance specifically with applications, you have to make sure you're understanding the characteristics of the storage that it's being run on. And in this lesson, what we're going to be focusing on is elastic block storage and how to work with it. Elastic block storage presents storage to your EC2 instances. So welcome back to Pluralsight. EBS Snapshots and Replication
Having the ability to backup your volumes is very important not just from a recoverability perspective but sometimes because you want to be able to back them up and move them to another region. Maybe you want to share them. You just want to be able to make them mobile. Now from a backup perspective, there's good news and some bad news. And we're going to cover both of those in this lesson. So welcome back to Pluralsight. I'm Elias Khnaser, and in this lesson we're going to be talking about EBS Snapshots and Replication.

Working with Amazon S3
If I were to quiz you right now and ask you, What was the oldest service or what was one of the first services that AWS launched? , would you be able to tell me what it was? Configuring Elastic Load Balancer (ELB)
Elastic load balancer (ELB), probably my second favorite feature on AWS, preceded only by auto scale. Auto scaling is really cool just because it represents elasticity, but we're going to talk about that later. In this lesson, what we're going to focus on is how to configure the elastic load balancer and a lot of the features that you can do behind it and the capabilities of this as a service offering. Configuring Auto Scaling
If you fell in love with vSphere because of vMotion, you're absolutely going to fall in love with AWS because of auto scaling. At least that was the case for me. Configuring Route 53
Where do I begin to tell the story of how important DNS is? DNS is probably the one technology that is the best representation of the difference between the way humans think and the way machines think. See we think in friendly names. We need something like Amazon. com and Pluralsight. com in order to remember things. However, machines require IP addresses, so what DNS will do is it will kind of play that bridge, that go-between, between humans and machines, and it will translate friendly names to computer-based IP addresses in order to make that connection. Now I don't have to tell you how crucial DNS is, and it's not just crucial for AWS, it's crucial for pretty much anything that you do; it is the basis of a good networking infrastructure, of a good infrastructure in general for anything that you're doing in IT. So what we're going to be focusing about in this lesson is configuring Route 53, which is Amazon's built-up from the ground up DNS. Well welcome back to Pluralsight. Working with Identity and Access Management (IAM)
If you don't want to end up in the news, listen up. If security was ever important, if it ever needed to be done, it's in the Cloud era. One of the roadblocks to cloud adoption is security, and security is a shared model shared responsibility approach, especially in the cloud, which is why this lesson is particularly important. We're going to show you how to secure your environment, and what are the tools that are available to you to do that. Monitoring with Amazon CloudWatch and Trusted Advisor
You can have the most perfectly configured environment in the world, but without monitoring, without up keeping, that environment can start to become not so perfect.
