Hi everyone, my name is Warner Chaves and welcome to my course Azure SQL Database for the SQL Server DBA. I am a Principal Consultant at Pythian and a Microsoft Data Platform MVP.

Azure SQL Database is Microsoft's cloud-first database. Closely aligned with SQL Server but different in management, availability and performance characteristics. It's a perfect fit for SQL Server DBas to expand their cloud skills!

This course is tailored for the SQL Server DBA that wants to get up and running with this cloud service as quickly as possible. Some of the major topics that we will cover include: provisioning of server and databases, understand the service models and tiers, measuring performance, working with the database transaction units and monitoring the service. The course will provide examples both in the portal interface and with Azure Powershell so you can learn both approaches!

By the end this course, you’ll be able to confidently apply your SQL Server experience to building or migrating a database solution to the cloud into Azure SQL Database.

Before beginning the course you only need to be familiar with basic SQL Server administration.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey to learn Azure SQL Database with the Azure SQL Database for the SQL Server DBA course, at Pluralsight.
