Course Overview
Welcome to Building Trust and Commitment on Teams. My name is Dan Appleman, and I've held leadership roles ranging from informal team leader to CEO. I've also spent a lot of time teaching about leadership. What I'm not is a psychologist. If you're looking for a bunch of academic theory or formulas on trust and commitment, you won't find it here. I know that you, as a technologist, are spending every spare minute you have just trying to keep up. I have an entire course on keeping up with technology here on Pluralsight, and I live with that challenge every day. So I promise you that the time you spend here will be worth it, and not just because trust and commitment are nice things to have on a team, but worth it because it will make you more effective and successful, regardless of whether you are a team member or the VP of software development. In this course, you'll learn the relationship between trust, commitment, success, risk, and the economics of technology. You'll learn about building trust between you as a leader and your team, and between members of a team. You'll learn how trust and commitment go hand in hand, and how they relate to retention. As you'll see, building trust and commitment on a team is both simple in concept, and at the same time, very challenging in execution. You'll learn the principles of building trust with specific examples of things you should and should not do, and then what to do when you screw up, which I promise you will, because we all do. So sit back, get comfortable, and get ready for the next module. I'm betting that by the end of this course, I'll have earned the trust that I'm asking for with my promise that this course will be worth your time.
