Throughout these lessons we'll go through the process of creating character concept designs for a design brief. We'll start with a very quick sketch of the concept to solidify the idea in our minds, then we will sketch the general shape of the concept before cleaning up the drawing on another layer. Finally, we'll block in and then refine the color while rendering out to an appropriate finish. Along the way, we'll emphasize the importance of the procedure and how to use the process to help move you forward quickly in your work. The process is simple and straightforward and allows the artist to focus on creating a clear, readable concept design. By the end of this training, you will have seen the exact process I use in my day to day work creating character concepts in a technique that works equally well in games, film, or toy design.
Introduction and Project Overview - Hi everyone my name's Alex Kosakowski. I'm a freelance Concept Artist and illustrator working in the video games industry. In this course, we're going to create a concept design for a character from start to finish. Some of the key takeaways from watching this course include: learning how to quickly get your idea for a new character sketched out, how to use that sketch as the basis for a clean and readable line drawing. We're going to learn a very quick and effective coloring technique that will help you to get the most information across with the fewest colors. How to render out just enough to make a concept completely readable, as well as a number of good practices and techniques and ways of thinking about concept design that will help you day to day in your own concept design work. By the end of the training, you will have learned how to use PhotoShop in a very effective way to create a clean and readable, professional level, concept design image. I'm excited to work with Digital-Tutors and share these techniques with you. So let's get started with the first lesson.
