Course Overview
Welcome to An Immortal Design, character design theory and development. My name is Jonah Lobe and I'm a character and concept artist in the video game industry. If you're a fan of either the Fallout or Elder Scrolls series, then you're familiar with some of my work. Movies and video games have been on the rise for years and the industry is bursting with talented, creative folks who, like you, are just trying to get ahead. Technical knowhow is imperative, but the single largest determinant in the character art arms race is still talent and artistic ability, line and shape, color and value, anatomy, and personality. These subjects matter, for not only are they the bread and butter of character design, they're fundamental to art itself. An immortal design is an exploration of character art, designed for beginners and veterans alike. We'll begin our journey at the conceptual stage with a focus on attitude and originality. From there, we'll move through the sculpting process and cover topics like anatomy, stance, virtual hierarchy, character, line and shape language. Finally, we'll explore texture and touchability, the mysteries of color and light and the elusive, but powerful concept of artistic control. An Immortal Design won't just give you the tools you need to improve your character art, it will help make you a better artist altogether. So what are you waiting for? Come on in and let's get started.
