Description

This tutorial covers tips and techniques that allow for quickly blocking in forms. Throughout the tutorial, we will learn methods that allow us to focus on the expression and emotion of the character and the personality it conveys, instead of having to worry about the topology while modeling using ZBrush and 3D Coat. We will look at how we can take advantage of 3D Coat's excellent re-topology tools, including automatic re-topology. Other modeling techniques we'll learn are Shadowbox, DynaMesh, insert brushes, extractions, alpha to 3D, and ZSketch. Software required: ZBrush 4R2, 3D-Coat 3.5.

Introduction and Project Overview
Hello, my name is Bojana. I work as a Senior Character Artist at WB Games. I previously worked at EA Tiburon and Midway Games, and I held several 3D-Coat and ZBrush workshops at our studio. I have been using 3D for animation, architecture visualization, video games, illustration, and concept art. My passion lies in creating characters and using sculpting tools to explore ideas. I have been looking for ways to make the whole modeling process more fun, flexible, and intuitive, and minimize the tedious tasks that are traditionally involved with the process. So I would like to share with you some of the modeling and sculpting techniques I have been using to build characters for video games, 3D concept art, illustration, you name it. I will walk you through the process of building a posed character inside ZBrush and 3D-Coat. We will start with a mannequin in ZBrush, pose it and convert it to DynaMesh for sculpting. Once body is shaped, we will add clothing, hair, shoes, and accessories. Since the resulting meshes are not animation-friendly and have fairly high poly count, I will demonstrate how 3D-Coat's resurfacing tools can be used to quickly generate new animation and sculpting friendly topology.
