In this tutorial we go through the environment design process of a boss battle level from multiple angles. Throughout the training we will explore some of the design process that is involved with developing an interesting boss battle experience. From the initial sketching phase, to lighting design in black and white, to the coloring process, we will go over from beginning to end a full fledged environment assignment. By the end of the tutorial we will have covered key tips and tricks in digital environment painting, as well as what to pay attention to in order to have an effective and engaging design. Introduction and Project Overview Hello everyone, my name is Alex Alvarado. I am a concept artist for Star Team, LLC. I am currently working on the children's virtual world game, Star Guardians. For the past five years, I have been working in both the video games and film and television industries filling a multitude of roles. In this course, we will take on Boss Battle Environment Design. Together, we'll go through the design brief, establishing a list of objectives that we'll need to make sure we create so that the boss battle is memorable and more importantly, fun. Once we've picked a thumbnail, we'll sketch out a secondary view of that same environment just so we can see it on all sides. After that, we'll begin blocking in the values in greyscale, giving us a better idea of how the lighting will work in the environment. Next, we'll color in the environment and really give it some life.
