Description

With this training, you'll be introduced to an application which is fast becoming the go to tool for cloth and clothing simulation, across both the film and game industries. Marvelous Designer, which is now in its third iteration, is an intuitive tailoring application which has been used by companies like Weta Digital on The Hobbit, Ubisoft on Assassins Creed, and Konami on Metal Gear Solid V. Putting those big names aside, with this training I want to show you how to create a complex dress for a character to wear. We'll begin by blocking out the patterns before we use a custom avatar to drape and adjust the dress to fit. We'll also explore fabrics, textures and touch upon some more advanced areas of the program too. Once created we'll then investigate posing and exporting the dress to be used in other applications. Software required: Marvelous Designer 3.

Introduction and Project Overview
Hi everyone, my name is Antony Ward. I'm the director and CG specialist at Ant CGI Limited. My most recent published projects include the game character creation series, Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed, and Oddworld Stranger's Wrath HD as well as host of recorded, written and published tutorials in addition to three technical manuals. With this course I want to introduce you to an application which is fast becoming the go to tool for cloth and clothing simulation across both the film and game industries. Marvelous Designer, which is now in it's third iteration, is an intuitive tailoring application which is being used by companies like Weta Digital on The Hobbit, Ubisoft on Assassin's Creed, and Konami on Metal Gear Solid V. Putting those big names aside, with this course I want to show you how to create a complex dress for a character to wear. We'll begin by blocking out the patterns before we use a custom avatar to drape and adjust the dress to fit. We will also explore fabrics, textures, and touch up on some more advanced areas of the program, too. Once created, we will then investigate posing and exporting the dress to be used in other applications. Some of the key take-aways from watching this course include creating and sewing clothing patterns, simulating and adjusting the garments in real time all while on a virtual manikin, applying textures, exploring fabrics, and importing and exporting garment animation. By the end of this course, you'll have a good understanding of Marvelous Designer and will be confident enough to take what you have learned and expand upon it as you welcome it into your work flow. I'm excited to work with digital tutors and share these tricks and techniques with fellow artists. So let's get started with the first lesson.
