Introduction
Just as servers, storage, and applications are being virtualized, so is the network. In this course, the Fundamentals of Network Virtualization, you'll learn what network virtualization is, how it can help you, and see it in action. My name is David Davis, and I'm excited to be your instructor for this course. You're watching the course introduction. I'm honored to be the first to welcome you to network virtualization. Network virtualization, I believe, is the future. With network virtualization, the physical network can be eliminated in most cases, and the traditional functions that were provided by that physical network can now be run virtually inside software. I'll be showing you firsthand how this works in this course, which I think, by the way, is going to be a great course on network virtualization. Thank you so much for joining us, we've got a lot to cover, so let's get started.

What Is Network Virtualization?
One of the most important things that you should get out of any fundamentals of network virtualization course is the answer to the question, what is network virtualization? That's exactly what you'll learn in this module. We'll kick it off with network virtualization defined, followed by how network virtualization works, the user cases for network virtualization, network virtualization versus software-defined networking, or SDN, network virtualization versus NFV, which is network function virtualization, and finally we'll wrap it up with a demo of administering virtual networks in VMware Fusion. We've got a lot to cover, so let's get started.
