Course Overview
Hi everyone. My name is Markus Neuhoff, and welcome to my course, Management: Getting Started. I'm a technical leader and developer with over a decade of experience in a wide variety of industries. Transitioning to people management is an exciting, challenging, and ultimately rewarding process. Throughout this course, we'll be following a newly promoted manager as she navigates the switch from an individual contributor to a successful manager. This course is intended to be a starting point in your journey towards people management. No previous management experience is required. Some of the major topics that we'll cover include the differences between being a leader and a manager, some common focus areas of managers, as well as some typical pitfalls. We'll also look at how to assess individual and team skills, and finally, a framework for delegating tasks. By the end of this course, you'll have a solid understanding of how to become a successful people manager and how to navigate many of the common pitfalls that new managers face. Before beginning this course, you should be familiar with the culture and structure of the organization that you work in, but there are no other specific prerequisites. I hope you'll join me on the journey of becoming a people manager with the Management: Getting Started course, at Pluralsight.
