Welcome to Adobe Illustrator CC Pen Tool
Hi, my name is Laura Coyle. I'm a freelance illustrator and Adobe Illustrator instructor. Welcome to my course, Hands On with the Pen Tool in Adobe Illustrator CC. Without a doubt, the Pen Tool is essential to vector drawing, and it's probably the tool I rely on the most in Illustrator because the Pen Tool gives me precise control over the paths I'm drawing. And mastering it comes as you spend more time working with the tool, so in this class my aim is to give you an organized hands-on approach so you'll be practicing as you learn. I was self-taught on the Pen Tool many years ago, and this is the class I wish I'd had then. We'll be working on an illustration project from start to finish. The subject matter is one of my favorites from art history, ancient Greek pottery, and we'll begin by creating simple graphic boarders to learn the very basics of working with the Pen Tool, anchor points, and curve handles. For Pen Tool beginners, this first chapter will get you up and running, and for more experienced users it's a chance for a quick reboot that will set you on a path to success. We'll create each element in this project in increasing levels of Pen Tool challenge, and we'll finish with a stylized methodological figure that will give you hands-on practice with everything you've learned. Along the way I'll give you tips, shortcuts, and art building methods that I've gathered over my years of experience with this tool. You'll gain valuable practice using the collection of exercise files included in the class. The early exercises give you anchor point and curve handle guides that you can use to help you internalize the process and then turn them off to test your progress. We'll also work on freeform designs that you can recreate or modify to suit your own projects. When you finish this class, you'll be well on your way to developing Pen Tool intuition, knowing where to place points and how to make those curve handles do your bidding. This is a comprehensive Pen Tool class, so you don't need any prior experience with the Pen Tool to take it, but you should have a basic working knowledge of Illustrator. In this class, you can draw with either a mouse or a graphics tablet. It's up to you. So join me for a hands-on odyssey with the Pen Tool in Adobe Illustrator.
