Description

We'll start off by learning how to download and install UDK. Then, we'll break down the interface into manageable sections and learn how to navigate in the viewports. After that, we'll learn how to use BSP brushes to block out our level quickly. At this point, we will begin adding static meshes and materials to our level to make it really come to life. Once the level is completely built, we will take care of our exterior lighting by adding a skybox, lights, and post-processing effects. Finally, we'll add some basic functionality to the level by adding path nodes, player spawns, and weapon factories. By the end of this course, you will not only have a visually stunning level, but you'll have an incredible knowledge of the core features in UDK. Software required: Unreal Development Kit.

About the author

Joshua is a devoted games author at Pluralsight. For years Joshua was a key author behind Digital-Tutors' (now a Pluralsight company) popular game engine training. As a kid, he had a passion for playing video games, which eventually developed into a fascination with the process of game creation. The question of "How'd they do that?" led Joshua on a quest to learn to make these games himself. Ever since then, Joshua has devoted his life to creating games, as well as teaching others to build their own fantastic video games.

Introduction and Project Overview
Hi, I'm Josh with Digital-Tutors. In this series of tutorials, we'll learn how to use the core features of the Unreal Development Kit to create a visually stunning environment. We'll start off by learning how to download and install UDK. Then we'll break down the interface into manageable sections and learn how to navigate the viewports. After that, we'll learn how to use BSP brushes to block out our level quickly. Now, at this point, we can begin adding static meshes and materials to our level to make it really come to life. Once the level is completely built, we'll take care of our exterior lighting by adding a skybox, lights, and post processing effects. Finally, we'll add some basic functionality to our level by adding path nodes, player spawns, and weapon factories. Now, by the end of this course, you'll not only have a visually stunning level, but you'll also have an incredible knowledge of the core features in UDK. So with that said, let's get started.
