Throughout these lessons, you will gain a deep understanding of how to build a digital matte painting starting from a provided plate. We will be working with composition and design using photographs and 3D paint-overs. We will finalize our matte painting by adding atmospheric elements using an organized, layer-based workflow. By the end of this tutorial, you will have created a sci-fi winterscape matte painting using an industry-proven workflow. Software required: Photoshop CC 2014, Bridge CC 2014, Maya 2014, V-Ray 3.0.

Introduction and Project Overview
Hello everyone, my name is Ashish Dani. I am a Generalist and a Matte Painter, currently working on feature films, commercials and episodics at Zoic Studios in Vancouver BC. My recent projects include Night At The Museum Three, Big Eyes, The 100, Adolf, Wayward Pines and Once Upon A Time. In this video tutorial we're going to be creating a matte painting based on a Snowy Ventil Landscape, and add some Sci-Fi elements to it. Some of the major topics that we will be going over include: Production-based Workflow and Techniques, balancing Art and Speed efficiently, understanding what a Plate is and how to work off it, building a Concept based on a description given, using a 3D package like Maya to build elements, Photo Dashing, Extractions, Adjustments and Transformation of images to work with our design, understanding and working with proper organization in the Workflow, learning how to build a landscape dealing with snow, expressing Depth and Distance and finally working with clouds and lighting to add an epic feel. By the end of the training you will be able to apply the Tips and Techniques to your own projects to create photo-realistic Matte Paintings. I am excited to work with Digital Tutors and share these valuable Workflow Techniques with fellow artists, so let's get started with the first lesson.
