Device and Network Monitoring
Welcome to Pluralsight. I'm Ben Piper, and this is Monitoring and Security for CCNP Routing and Switching 300-101 ROUTE. This is the fifth and final course this series covering the CCNP ROUTE exam. In this course we're going to be putting some finishing touches on the network that we've been working with throughout this series. We're going to cover iOS security features like ACLs, Unicast Reverse Path Forwarding, and router access control. We'll also cover logging and network monitoring tools including NetFlow and SNMP. We're also going to configure IPv4 Network Address Translation, or NAT, and finally we have entire module devoted to preparing for the CCNP ROUTE exam. My goal for this course series is to help you get to the point where you can take the ROUTE exam and pass it. That means I'm going to tell you what you need to know, but I'm not going to go into every minute technical detail of every topic. If you spend too much time on memorizing the details of less important topics, you could displace important details of the fundamental or foundational topics. This course corresponds to the following exam topics, 5. 0 Infrastructure Security, and 6. 0 Infrastructure Services. So we're going to start with the first one, Infrastructure Security.

IOS Security
So far throughout this course we've been focusing mainly on routing concepts, and the idea of security has come up here and there in the context of specific routing protocols, but in this module we're going to cover some security technologies you can use to secure both your individual Cisco routers, as well as the entire network itself. We're going to start by looking at how to secure individual routers by restricting login access. In our lab we've had free reign to log into any router we want, but in a real environment this is probably not going to be the case. So while understanding how to secure a router may not be a huge part of the ROUTE exam, it definitely is a basic skill you need to have. Then we're going to look at securing the network by using IPv6 security features including traffic filters, and finally we'll look at another security feature called Unicast Reverse Path Forwarding. These are certainly not the only security features available in iOS, but they are the ones you need to know for the exam.
