Getting started with a Oracle Compute Cloud Service, or any cloud service, can be a daunting task at first. Being unfamiliar with the terminology and concepts can make getting productive a slow process. In this course, Oracle Compute Cloud Service Foundations, you will dive into creating your first compute instance with storage and get connected to the instance. Next, you will advance your knowledge working with other storage options, and controlling access with security features. Finally, you will delve into automating the build process with orchestrations. By the end of this course, you will understand how Oracle Compute Cloud Services can benefit your company and have the knowledge to build the infrastructure environments you need.

Introduction to Oracle Cloud IaaS The term "cloud" has been, well, it's so overly used, it's gotten a lot of people confused, especially us in IT ops. It's become this marketing term that it's hard to determine what it really means. And that's what we want to do is we want to kind of focus in on the concept of what Infrastructure as a Service or IaaS is before we dive in and start using it. Now one of the interesting things about cloud computing is that it's not only highly secured, but it's actually a concept that you're already familiar with. So here's what we're going to do in this module. We're going to take a look at on-premises virtualization. And the reason that we're looking at virtualization is that that concept directly ties into what, well, what we're working with when we talk about cloud and Infrastructure as a Service. We'll do an overview of what IaaS is. and we'll talk specifically about off-premises compute, the Oracle Compute Cloud Service, which is what we're focused on in this course. But I also want to mention off-premises storage with Oracle Storage Cloud Service, which is done later in this series. So let's get started and talk about virtualization.
