In this series of Maya tutorials, we will explore a number of techniques that we can use in Maya to help eliminate the flickering problems that we often encounter whenever rendering with Final Gather. This flickering is an extremely common problem that can be difficult to fix. We will begin this course by exploring the mechanics of the final gather solution and explaining why this flickering is just a natural part of the final gathering process. From there, we will learn a number of ways in which we can start fixing the problem, using specialized final gather solutions for stationary objects in your scene, tips to avoid flickering when using image-based lighting, using specialized mental ray Production Shaders to help eliminate final gather flickering, and many additional tips and workflows to help you create flicker free final gather in Maya. Software required: Maya 2013.

Hi, I'm Kyle with Digital Tutors, an Autodesk Authorized Publisher. In this series of lessons we'll explore a number of techniques that we can use inside of Maya to help eliminate the flickering problems that we can, all too often, encounter whenever rendering with Final Gather. So if you ever rendered any sort of an animation and it's been lit with Final Gathering I'm sure that you've probably run into these dreaded flickering effect of Final Gather. So it's an extremely common problem that can be extremely difficult to fix. So we'll begin this course by exploring the mechanics of the Final Gather solution, and why this would flickering is really just a natural part of the Final Gathering process. Now from there, we'll learn a number of ways in which we can actually start to fix the problem. So using specialized Final Gather solutions for stationary objects in your scene, we'll talk about a number of tips to help you avoid flickering whenever using things like image-based lighting in your scenes. And we'll look at a number of specialized Metal Rate Production Shaders to help you eliminate the Final Gather flickering. As well as lots of additional tips, some tricks, and workflows that will almost always guarantee you to have flicker-free Final Gather when it comes to rendering in Maya.
