Introduction
Hi, my name is Stephen Haunts. Welcome to my course on How to Run Effective Meetings. Have you ever sat in a meeting with that sinking feeling you're just wasting your time? Perhaps a meeting is going nowhere or there is no agenda. Does the person running the meeting struggled to keep it on topic? These are all very common problems, and I've certainly sat through my share of pointless meetings, but it doesn't have to be this way. A meeting should be a great platform to bring people together to solve problems, plan projects, and drive businesses forward and not be a drain on people's enthusiasm. This course will give you all the tools you need to plan and run effective meetings so that everyone involved gets something out of the process. The course has the following main aim, to discover how to lead and participate in formal or informal meetings and how to make them more productive and successful. You will learn how to save time and resources by ensuring that meetings support business needs. By the end of this course, you'll be able to identify the best reasons for holding meetings, prepare for meetings more thoroughly, draw up action center agendas, apply the skills of chairing, leading, facilitating, and participating, and finally, structure and then managing conversations in meetings for maximum effectiveness. This course is split into the following sections: In the first module called Why Have Meetings, we'll look at what meetings are for and the different types of meetings. The next module is all about planning and preparing for meetings. In this module, we'll look at who to invite, picking the venue, and setting the meeting's objectives and agenda. The next module is about running the meeting. We start off looking at different ways in which you can start the meeting off and setting the meeting's guidelines. Then we look at different ways of facilitating the rest of the meeting. If you find this course helpful, then I have other personal development courses that you may find useful, such as Conflict Resolution in the Workplace, Building Healthy Interpersonal Relationships at Work, Understanding and Applying Leadership Styles, Innovation in the Workplace, and Increasing Productivity by Beating Procrastination. This course is aimed at anyone who works in a professional environment that will need to attend or host meetings. I hope you'll join me, Stephen Haunts, on this journey to learn about running meetings with my course, How to Run Effective Meetings, here at Pluralsight.
