In this tutorial, we will learn how to sketch a character in ZBrush and Softimage and how to make it into a detailed sculpture. The purpose of this tutorial is to show you how to use Softimage and ZBrush as 3D sketching applications. Also, we want to teach you how to use new features like DynaMesh and ICE to complete a 3D concept of a mythological character. Software required: Softimage 2012, ZBrush 4R4.

Introduction and Project Overview
My name is Szabolcs Matefy. I work at Crytek Budapest Studio as a senior character artist and I'll be your instructor in the next couple of hours. In this tutorial, we will use Softimage and Zbrush to create a character concept sculpt based upon the mythological Medusa. I will show you how to use vector-based measures like Exocortex Species for make human for creative, 3D concepting. You will learn how to experiment with all this in Softimage and transfer posed object from Softimage to Zbrush and back. You will also learn how to Zbrush Zsketch brushes and the new DynaMesh feature for concepting character assets like brassed armor and hair made of snakes or environmental elements. By the end of this tutorial, you will have the knowledge of using Softimage and Zbrush to create your own fantastic character concept sculpts. So, let's get started.
