Description

Standing a bit offset from the rest of VMware's Horizon 7 portfolio, VMware Mirage focuses its attentions predominantly on physical desktops. Arriving as a kind of a backup-and-recovery solution alongside some clever "layering" technology, Mirage offers the ability to centralize desktops against a common OS and app baseline. In this course, VMware Horizon 7: Configure and Administer VMware Mirage, you'll learn how to install and configure VMware Mirage in a simple single-server architecture. First, you'll walk through its relatively lightweight integrations with the rest of VMware Horizon. Next, you'll centralize some example desktops. Finally, you'll use those example desktops as a starting point for both OS and App layers. By the end of this course, you'll gain an appreciation for where this solution fits within VMware's greater EUC portfolio.

Course Overview
Hey, this is Greg Shields, and you've found another of my courses in this learning path on VMware Horizon 7, this time on the installation, configuration, and use of VMware Mirage. I am author evangelist and a full-time author here at Pluralsight, and I have been working with VMware solutions since the days that those virtual machines were nearly always just servers. VMware Mirage's positioning in this learning path on Horizon is a bit of a one-off. While Mirage does include several light integrations with the rest of VMware View, it's main reason for being has more to do with managing physical machine configurations than any virtual machines. VMware Mirage arrives as a kind of backup and recovery solution with a nifty twist. Using Mirage, you can not only backup and recover your desktops, but also push down OS and app layers to centralize their baseline configuration. In this course, we'll explore the installation, configuration, and and everyday use of VMware Mirage, focusing almost exclusively on that physical desktop use case. We'll dig into its unique architecture and exactly how it twists on regular everyday backups to offer that centralized management to OS and app images. And we'll run through the click-by-click in creating and deploying Mirage's layers so that you're prepared for exactly how to get started should you decide to implement Mirage's technologies. If you've just been tasked with installing and configuring a Horizon 7 environment in your organization, this course is your first stop in brushing up on those skills for success. And then from here, you'll be ready to continue on the learning path as you configure VMware Identity Manager and vRealize operations. Let's get started.
