Course Overview
Hi everyone. My name is Barret Hudson, and welcome to my course, Fundamentals of Professional Level Design. I'm currently a game designer at Massive Entertainment, but I got my start in the games industry as a level designer. Level design is where ideas transform, and get shaped into a playable game. Working as a level designer on a professional development team is an incredibly fun and rewarding job. While a lot of level design is about the actual creation process in the level editor, this course focuses on the processes and techniques professional level designers use to ensure that what they create in an editor turns out polished and fun. No prior level design or editor experience is required. Some of the major topics that we will cover include: the responsibilities of a level designer on a professional game development team, the process game teams go through to take a game from initial idea to finished product, how to write a professional level design document that will help you communicate your ideas and clarify your vision, and the importance of playtesting and polishing your level so it's a fun and memorable experience for the player. By the end of this course, you'll know how to develop consistently high-quality levels, and be well on your way to working as a level designer on your favorite games. I hope you'll join me on this journey to learn level design, with the Fundamentals of Professional Level Design course, at Pluralsight.
