Description

Whether you're new to Citrix, or have worked with it's many versions, you're aware of how large and complex a beast any Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops implementation can be. Very different from other solutions, you almost have to know everything about CVAD to truly appreciate...well...anything about it. It's for that reason that this learning path breaks apart the topics in installing and managing CVAD into one course for each of it's major components.

In this first course out of nine, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops: Introduce the CVAD Architecture, you'll first get an introduction to Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. Next, you'll explore these courses' alignment with the CCA-V and CCP-V certifications. Next, you'll take a high-level look at the CVAD architecture. Finally, you'll discover the virtual machines and networks you'll want to build if you plan on following along. By the time you've finished, you'll be ready to start building your own Citrix CVAD infrastructure as you progress through the learning path.

Start Course
Description

This course begins with the on-premises deployment of the central core of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. In this course, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops: Deploy an On-Premises Site, this kicks off the learning path's demonstration environment with an initial build and configuration of license server, Citrix Hypervisors, Delivery Controllers, and StoreFront servers. These components in combination become the foundation of the delivery environment you'll be using in the courses to follow. First, you'll begin with the licenses and license server, fulfilling and downloading the necessary license files to get things going. Next, you'll dig deeply into the installation and configuration of Citrix Hypervisor. Then, you'll deploy and prepare a pair of Delivery Controllers. Finally, you'll perform some significant configuration to install and secure a set of highly-available StoreFront servers. By the end of this course, you'll have the skills you need to build a new Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment.

Description

With the initial construction of your on-premises CVAD environment now complete, it's time to dig in and use it. In this third course out of nine, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops: Deliver App and Desktop Resources, you'll explore the mechanics behind the creation of virtual machines and VM templates, their use in the creation of machine catalogs and delivery groups, and then the steps involved in getting users on the LAN, and from the outside, securely connected to desktops and apps.

First, you'll begin with the preparation of our virtual machine master images and the deployment of the Citrix VDA. Next, you'll use those VM templates to create a pair of machine catalogs; those catalogs you'll use to create a series of delivery groups that provision desktops and apps to specified user groups. Then, you'll switch over to the user's perspective and explore the deployment and use of Citrix's client-side app now called Citrix Workspace App. Finally, you'll securely extend the entire environment out to the rest of the world by deploying a pair of Citrix ADC appliances and enabling Citrix Gateway. By the end of this course, you'll have the skills to build a new Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment.

Description

Throughout the entire build of our Citrix CVAD environment so far, we've sort of waved our hands over the user's experience. You've learned about how pooled machine catalogs can delete user changes the moment they logout. But, most users want some continuity of their experience each time they login. In this fourth course out of nine, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops: Manage the User Experience, you'll learn about defining and then managing that user's experience across the variety of user logins.

First, you'll explore the mechanics of Citrix Policies, which themselves are born out of traditional Active Directory Group Policies. Next, you'll move from the "science" of those policy mechanics to the "art" of which policies make sense for your particular deployment. Then, you'll dig deeply into Citrix printing, defining the printing experience across sessions both inside and outside the firewall. Finally, you'll take a look at Citrix Profile Management, the first, and probably oldest, of Citrix's solutions to deliver user profile data as part of the login process. By the end of this course, you'll have the skills to build a new Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment.

Description

With so many moving parts making up even just your small CVAD lab environment, you can imagine how keeping track of system behaviors is no small task. Troubleshooting connections that don't connect or desktops that don't present can be difficult to impossible without the right tools. In this fifth course out of nine, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops: Monitor and Troubleshoot, you will get to know, and in one case deploy, those monitoring and troubleshooting tools.

First, you'll begin with a look and a deployment of Citrix Director, Citrix's integrated monitoring solution that spreads across all the components you've installed so far. Next, once deployed, you'll explore the use of this powerful tool for solving a series of common Citrix environment issues. Finally, you'll go a mile wide and an inch deep into the broad array of troubleshooting tools Citrix has made available over the years. By the end of this course, you'll be armed with a quiver of troubleshooting tools that'll get you started in troubleshooting the most common of CVAD issues.

Description

For decades, a goal of desktop management has been getting to "a single image", a single, central source from which all desktop configurations begin their lifecycle. With the release of Citrix App layering, that goal need no longer be unattainable.

In this sixth course out of nine, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD): Integrate App Layering, you'll learn how Citrix App Layering fractures the traditional desktop image process into individual OS, platform, and app layers that can be logically assembled into layered desktop images. First, you'll learn the mechanics behind the Citrix App Layering approach. Then, you'll deploy and configure the Enterprise Layer Manager (ELM) appliance. Next, you'll prepare individual OS layers, platform layers, and app layers that assemble together to create layered desktop images. Finally, you'll explore the use of user layers and elastic layers for their additional flexibility in managing desktop images. By the end of this course, you'll be ready to finally achieve that single image goal for all your CVAD desktops.

  1. Course Overview
  2. Introduction
  3. Understand App Layering
  4. Deploy the App Layering Appliance
  5. Prepare and Deploy Layered Images
  6. Deploy Elastic Layers and User Layers
