Derek Downey

After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Derek started out his career as a PHP developer. When the need arose, he made the transition from developer to sysadmin, then to specializing in managing MySQL systems. Derek joined a managed services company to help manage a variety of open source database environments utilizing MySQL and MongoDB. As Cloud technologies became popular, Derek helped many companies migrate to the cloud using various cloud native database technologies. Often times, Derek helped implement automation for managing complex database environments. Derek joined a company that provided visibility into database system performance as a SaaS solution, helping train customers in getting the most insight into their database performance. Derek has always enjoyed teaching to help others get the most out of their database systems. And so, Derek became a Pluralsight author to help train the next generation of open source database enthusiasts.
