Add Existing Data Disk to a VM in Azure
Your department needs to decommission a virtual machine (VM) and retain the data on that VM's disk. You decide that the best option is to attach the disk to a different VM that is currently running. Attach the data disk to the VM and ensure that the disk can be accessed by the operating system.

Decommission WinVM2 and Retain the Storage
After reviewing the environment, select WinVM2 and delete the virtual machine. Ensure that, when deleting the VM, you do not delete the storage that is attached to the virtual machine.

Attach Existing WinVM2 Data Disk to WinVM1
Once WinVM2 has been deleted, modify WinVM1 and attach the existing data disk as an additional disk.

Verify Disk on WinVM1
Once the change has been completed, connect to WinVM1 via an RDP client and navigate to File Explorer. Ensure you can view the storage from WinVM1.
