Description

Civil 3D points can help you tackle and solve many engineering problems. In this course, Getting Started Using Points in Civil 3D, you will see how to import points, manipulate points, and use points to create design elements. First, you will be introduced to points and what they represent in Civil 3D. Next, you will go over how point styles control the display of the marker in Civil 3D as well as, seeing how AutoCAD Civil 3D transparent commands are used to specify point locations within a larger operation, such as the creation of an alignment or a parcel lot line. Finally, you will use description keys to automatically control some drawing point properties, such as the appearance of a point in the drawing, when you create or import points. When you are finished with this course, you will be better equipped to use points in Civil 3D. Software required: Civil 3D 2018.

Course Overview
Hello everyone. My name is Sam Lucido, and welcome to my course named Getting Started with Points in Civil 3D. I am a Senior CAD Designer and CAD Services Manager with over 20 years of experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D in the engineering design services industry. I am an AutoCAD Certified Professional and Expert Elite Member. I also write CAD-related articles for AUGIWorld and various online publications. In this course, we will learn how to use points in Civil 3D to leverage the data to their fullest, which will eliminate all manual input of data with fast and easy point importing and development for various Civil engineering projects. Some of the major topics that we will cover will be an overview of points, including the AutoCAD point node and COGO points in Civil 3D; point marker and point label styles, how they are connected and how to control them; point groups and point creation tools, the power of using groups and how to use the creation tools to have flexibility within those groups; importing and exporting points, a big part of COGO points is how to get them in and how to get the data out; and then finally, using description keys to define point data creating point reports to deliver to your project teams. While going through this Civil 3D course, you'll not only know how to use points to tackle and solve many engineering problems, you'll also understand the concept of point data and how you can use those points to improve your designs. Before beginning this course, you should be familiar with the basics of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D. More specifically, using Prospector, editing and creating styles in Civil 3D, and importing data in Civil 3D. I am excited to explore points in Civil 3D with you and hope you join me on this course, Getting Started with Points, at Pluralsight.
