Course Overview
Hi everyone! My name is Joshua Brock, and welcome to my course, Creating Cartoon Characters in Maya. I'm a character modeller at DreamWorks Animation TV. Prior to DreamWorks, I was working as a character modeller for Nickelodeon Studios on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In this course, we are going to cover some important modelling principles and techniques for creating a stylized character from concept to final UVs. Some of the major topics that we will cover include using image planes to guide the creation of a model, proper edge flow for key areas that have heavy deformations such as the hands and face, toolsets for unfolding and laying out UVs, along with file cleanup and organization. By the end of this course, you'll have the proper knowledge and skill set to create production quality character models. Before beginning the course, you should be familiar with basic modelling tools and techniques in Maya. From here you should feel comfortable diving in to advanced modelling with courses on realistic character modelling, prop modelling, and sculpting for beginners.
