Description

Creating CGI oceans is becoming far more accessible and easier with every release of Maya. In this course, Maya Dynamics: BOSS Ocean Simulations, you'll learn how to create realistic ocean surfaces with spectral waves, ripples, and wakes. First, you'll be introduced to how the BOSS system works. Next, you'll explore all of the ins and outs of the spectral wave solvers. Then, you'll discover how to layer multiple solvers together. Finally, you'll learn how to export your ocean simulation in several formats and how to create an ocean shader and render in Arnold in Maya 2017. By the end of this course, you'll have a better understanding of the BOSS system in Maya 2017. Software required: Autodesk Maya 2017.

Course Overview
Hi everyone. My name is Peter Gend, and welcome to my course, Maya Dynamics: BOSS Ocean Simulations. I'm a CGI artist and an educator at several colleges and universities in the greater Los Angeles area. Creating CGI oceans is becoming far more accessible and easier to do with every release of Maya. In fact, as of Maya 2017, we now have a brand new, dedicated system specifically for this task. This system is called BOSS. It's short for Bifrost Ocean Simulation System, and in this course, you're going to learn to use BOSS to create realistic ocean surfaces with spectral waves, ripples, and wakes. You'll be introduced to how the BOSS system works, and then we'll jump right into creating an ocean simulation from scratch. The ocean will be designed in multiple layers, transferred to high-resolution meshes, exported as both caches and displacement maps, and ultimately shaded, lit, and rendered. Some of the major topics that we will cover will include the basic workflows of the BOSS system, learning all the ins and outs of the spectral wave solvers, we'll learn to work in multiple layers that we can build up a very complex ocean simulation with ease, we'll learn to export our oceans in several different formats, and we'll learn to create our own custom ocean shader and render it in Arnold in Maya 2017. By the end of this course, you'll have a full working knowledge of the new BOSS system in Maya 2017. Before beginning the course, you should have a basic knowledge of Maya. However, prior knowledge of the Bifrost-related systems are not required. I hope you'll join me on this journey to learn the great new BOSS system in Maya 2017 here, at Pluralsight.
