In this tutorial, we will learn about the steps involved in creating a character illustration from start to finish. Throughout this course, we will follow a process of creating character illustrations. We will start with quick sketches to work out the pose and gesture. Then we will use that sketch as a guide to do a cleaned up drawing. Finally we will block in colors and render out to an appropriate finish. Along the way we will emphasize the importance of the procedure and how integral staying focused on the current step of the process is to producing effective images. This process is simple and straightforward and after viewing this course you will have plenty of tips and techniques to incorporate into your own process of quick and effective character illustration. Software required: Photoshop CS4.

Introduction and Project Overview
Hi, everyone, my name's Alex Kosakowski. I'm a freelance Concept Artist Illustrator working in the video game industry, and this course is about quick and effective character illustration. I'm going to share my process of character illustration using Photoshop. We're going to sketch characters, we're going to pick a good sketch to do a clean drawing from, we're going to block in the colors, focusing on value and picking the right colors right off the bat. We're going to keep everything organized as we move forward in the work, and then we're going to render out just what needs to be rendered out, to sell the image, to make a pleasing image. To really sell the character. And by the end of this training, you'll hopefully have picked up plenty of tips and tricks and the techniques that I use for a quick and effective character illustration. So, we'll get started with the next video, with going over reference, going over the initial sketch, and starting our sketches to start our final character illustration.
