Secure Data at Rest for Go Applications
In this lab, you’ll practice securing data at rest in Go with bcrypt hashing, AES‑GCM, and Docker Secrets Manager. When you’re finished, you’ll have a Go app that hashes passwords, encrypts records, and loads secrets from Docker.

Challenge
Store Passwords Securely Using Hashing With Salt
You'll examine password storage techniques and best practices to ensure sensitive information is protected. You will start be examining the risks associated with storing passwords in plaintext. Then, you will see how to remediate these risks by implementing a password hashing strategy using BCrypt.
-
Challenge
Using AES-GCM Encryption
You will learn about the benefits of using two-way encryption strategies to protect sensitive data stored long-term, whether in a database or in files. Specifically, you will see how to use AES-GCM encryption in your Go programs to securely encrypt and decrypt data.
-
Challenge
Extracting Secrets from the Code
You will learn how to extract secrets from your code. You will use Docker secrets to store and manage sensitive information, such as API keys and database credentials, outside of your application code making them available.
-
Challenge
Knowledge Check
Assess your understanding of password protection, encryption, and externalizing secrets.
What's a lab?
