Michael started his tech career as a contractor working for a small IT company, setting up Microsoft Small Business Server for its clients. This included managing active directory as well as MS Exchange services. Typically this also involved VPN and network configuration. With this experience Michael went on to work for a Web Hosting company where he learned to Manage MS SQL server as well as MS Hyper-V. This led to a position as an engineer working with infrastructure as code and deploying Linux machines as well as Windows Server. Leveraging his experience with Infrastructure as Code, Michael moved to a position with a SAAS company in the financial space as a Software Release Manager. Leveraging configuration management tools to configure Xenserver to provide pre-production environments for developers. Then the cloud called and Michael moved his devops experience to a managed cloud provider as a devops engineer specialized in AWS deployments. This led to more in depth study of cloud technologies and platforms and led to an opportunity to become a full time instructor for an online education company. In this role Michael leveraged his knowledge of IAC, SAAS and open source to build courses around those subjects. Eventually Michael became the instructor of instructors and then a director of quality, maintenance and performance. Michael has never lost the passion for teaching and helping students learn technology.
