What you'll learn

Running individual virtual machines does not scale, and a single unhealthy instance can take down a service. In this course, Azure Virtual Machine Scaling and Load Balancing Operations, you'll learn to operate resilient VM-backed workloads on Azure. First, you'll explore how to provision a horizontally-scaled instance group with capacity bounds, front it with an Azure Application Gateway, and define the health signal that determines backend membership. Next, you'll discover how to configure CPU-based autoscale rules and watch the group respond to load, install the Application Health extension as the per-instance repair signal, enable automatic instance repair, and confirm that both scale and replacement events converge the group back to its target state. Also, you'll see how to diagnose unhealthy members, failed instance creations, and misaligned network or health settings. Finally, you'll learn how to evaluate when Azure Virtual Machines is the appropriate compute primitive for a workload. When you're finished with this course, you'll have the skills and knowledge of Azure VM scaling and load balancing operations needed to run resilient instance-based services and to make sound decisions for when to use Azure Virtual Machines versus other compute primitives.
