The Wireless Medium Hi, my name is Avril Salter and welcome to CCNA Wireless. In this lesson we're going to be talking about the wireless medium itself, and when you look at deploying wireless LANs, it's just incredibly important to understand the basics of how radio operates because if you understand what's happening over the air, it's going to be much easier for you to understand how to get good coverage, how to get good capacity out of your wireless LAN. So let's start this important lesson.
Wireless Networks Hi you are listening to Avril Salter and we're talking about CCNA Wireless. In this lesson we're going to be talking about wireless networks. Those different wireless networks, what are the industry terms that are used when we define those networks and then we're going to talk about how they work because at the very heart of wireless, all of the wireless networks work the same way. The way they've been implemented is different and so they have different applications, but the fundamentals of wireless remain the same whether you're talking about your wireless LAN connection or your cellular phone connection.
Propagation Basics Hi, you're listening to Avril Salter talking about CCNA Wireless. In this lesson we're going to talk about propagation basics. So what does propagation mean? It's literally what happens to your signal when it goes from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna. So we're going to talk about what's happening to your signal as it goes over-the-air. So in this picture, you can see I've got a source transceiver, which is transmitting, and I have a destination transceiver, which is receiving the signal. And so when that signal is propagated from the antenna, all sorts of things can happen to it. Now I could have line of sight between the two antennas like I have in this illustration or there could be some obstacles in between, in which case my signal would need to penetrate through those obstacles. My signal could be bouncing off the ceiling, the floor, the desk, people's bodies, and that is constantly changing, so as people are moving around and my RF environment is changing, so the path of my signal is going to change and so what that means is that my receive signal is constantly going to be changing. And you can see here that I've got signals coming in at different times because depending on what path they took, they're going to arrive at different times. Now clearly if I have line of sight, then that signal is going to arrive first and then all my reflective signals are going to arrive a little bit later.
Wireless LAN Network Nodes Hi, this is Avril Salter talking about CCNA Wireless. In this short lesson we just want to cover the network nodes that are part of a wireless network, and it really sets the scene for understanding those components when we get then into more detail about each of those specific nodes in later lessons. So we're going to literally step through the different physical components that you might expect to see in an enterprise deployment.
