Course Overview
Hello everybody. My name is Jason Olson, and welcome to my course, Python: The Big Picture. I am currently a full‑stack software engineer and a Pluralsight author with courses in the programming languages and software practices domain. Are you new to programming and just picking up your first language? Perhaps you're an experienced developer wanting to add a new language to your skillset, or you might even be a manager wanting to learn more about this Python language you keep hearing about. Well, in this course, I'll introduce you to the Python programming language, a widely used and fun programming language, and perhaps the only programming language named after a world‑famous comedy troupe. Some of the major topics we will cover include why Python is a great programming language, from being simple to learn and use to it being widely used and in high demand, what Python is, from elements of its syntax to its different characteristics as a programming language, and finally, some pros and cons of Python. By the end of this course, you'll be more familiar with the Python programming language. You'll be able to articulate what makes Python powerful and unique, as well as understand some of its drawbacks and when you may not want to use it. Being a Big Picture course, you don't need a lot of computer knowledge or programming experience to get value from this course. After this course, you should be comfortable deciding on whether you want to continue your Python journey or not with the many great Python courses available right here on Pluralsight. I hope you'll join me on this journey to learn more about the great Python programming language with this Big Picture course, here at Pluralsight.
