You'll learn about different maintenance operations and their impact on database availability. The course covers Automatic Minor Version Upgrades (AMVU) and Aurora's Zero Downtime Patching (ZDP) capabilities. You'll discover various approaches for major version upgrades, including in-place upgrades, logical replication methods, Blue/Green deployments, and using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS). These techniques are applicable to both Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, with specific considerations for each service highlighted. By examining best practices for major version upgrades, you'll learn to plan and execute database upgrades while minimizing downtime and maintaining data integrity. This practical course is designed to help database administrators effectively manage the lifecycle of their PostgreSQL databases on both Aurora and RDS platforms.
