What you'll learn

With growing data volumes and increasing demand for faster, scalable analytics, traditional data warehouses often struggle to meet the requirements of modern analytical workloads. This is where the Databricks Lakehouse and Databricks SQL come in.

Databricks SQL provides a SQL-first analytics experience on Lakehouse, enabling teams to run data warehousing and analytics workloads directly on Delta Lake, while natively integrating with Unity Catalog for security, management, and governance.

In this course, Up and Running with Databricks SQL, you’ll gain the ability to get started with Databricks SQL, manage data entities, and query data effectively.

First, you’ll see how Databricks SQL fits into the Lakehouse architecture.

Then, you’ll learn what Databricks SQL is, understand its core components, and set up the environment to begin working with it.

Next, you’ll learn how to create Unity Catalog entities like tables and views to store, manage, and secure data that can be queried using Databricks SQL.

And finally, you’ll learn how to query data using SQL, and visualize insights using charts and dashboards.

When you’re finished with this course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge of Databricks SQL needed to perform data warehousing and run analytical workloads on a data lake.
