What you'll learn

Reverse engineers lose hours to work that should be automated - renaming obfuscated functions by hand, carving embedded payloads one at a time, and repeating the same analysis steps across every new sample. In this course, Extend IDA with Scripts, you’ll gain the ability to turn IDA Pro from a tool you drive manually into a platform your own analysis tooling runs on. First, you’ll explore automating database work with IDAPython, programmatically reading and writing metadata, resolving obfuscated function names at scale, and carving embedded data with Python. Next, you’ll discover how to extend IDA itself by building a plugin with its own interface, wiring external tools into the IDA toolbar, and generating custom FLIRT signatures that teach IDA to recognize proprietary code. Finally, you’ll learn how to run IDA without a graphical interface using idalib, building a command-line triage utility that ranks findings across a corpus of binaries and exports indicators to downstream SIEM and threat intelligence platforms. When you’re finished with this course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge of IDA automation needed to build analysis tooling that scales past what any analyst can do by hand.
