In voice communications, the PBX no longer reigns supreme. VOIP and related IP telephony technologies provide organizations with enhanced performance at lower cost. Cisco's Unified Communications Manager Express system combines the flexibility of their Integrated Services Router devices with the power of their enterprise-class Unified Communications Manager platform. The result is an inexpensive, easy to administer IP telephony solution. In this course, ISR Initial Setup and Basic Configuration for Cisco UCM Express, you'll be guided through a complete UCME deployment. First, you'll begin by covering the hardware needed and how to put it together. Next, you'll discover how to upgrade the software and how to use VLANs and sub-interfaces. Then, you'll prepare for remote administration. Finally, you'll learn how to keep proper time and how to install the GUI. By the end of this course, you'll know how to complete the initial steps of a Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express deployment.

Course Overview
Hi, my name is John O'Neill Sr. , and welcome to my course, ISR Initial Setup and Basic Configuration for Cisco's Unified Communications Manager Express. I am the Chief Technologist at AWS Solutions and AwesomeWildStuff. com. As a 25+ year IT pro, I've enjoyed the opportunity to work as a consultant, architect, executive, speaker, and even author. I'm a four time Microsoft MVP who's passionate about sharing my love and knowledge of IT. IP telephony, commonly called VoIP, has kicked the PBX off the top the hill when it comes to voice communications. Cisco Range is the premier provider of IP telephony solutions. In addition to their large enterprise solutions, Cisco's Unified Communications Manager Express and Unity Express Solutions running atop their Integrated Services Router products, provide very cost effective VoIP solutions for smaller businesses and organizations. In this course, we're going to discover just how easy it is to begin deployment of a full featured IP telephony solution using Cisco's Unified Communications Manager Express Solution. Some of the major topics that we'll cover include, getting the hardware ready, upgrading the software, using VLANs and sub-interfaces, preparing for remote admin, keeping proper time, and installing the graphical user interface. By the end of this course, you'll know how to complete the initial steps of a Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express deployment. You'll also be prepared for the next course in this learning path. Before beginning the course, you should have a beginner level familiarity with Cisco IOS and IP telephony in general. From here, dive into the next course in our learning path, ISR Voice Configuration for Cisco UCM Express. I hope you'll join me on this journey to learn ISR Initial Setup and Basic Configuration for Cisco UCM Express, here at Pluralsight.

Preparing the Hardware
Hi there, this is John O'Neill Sr. with Pluralsight, and I'm super excited to be here with you today, and embarking on our newest course, Integrated Service Router Initial Setup and Basic Configuration for the Cisco Unified Communication Manager Express platform. That's one heck of a title, there's a lot there, but we're going to explain what's going to happen and what's going on in this course in just a second. In the meantime, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am proud to be an author for Pluralsight, I've done a number of courses with them over the years, and it's just as exciting each time. Well, with that, let's get into the new course.

First Boot
Hi there, this is John O'Neill Sr. with Pluralsight again, and I'm excited to get going on this next module in our Cisco UCME course. This module is titled First Boot, and here's where we get real, we're going to hook our router up, fire it up for the first time, and begin its configuration. So, let's get started by reviewing quickly what we're going to cover in this module. First, we're going to talk about preparing our console connection, this is how we connect our computer to the ISR. We're going to complete the System Configuration Dialog, we'll talk more about what that is here in a few moments. Finally, we'll go ahead and adjust the authentication parameters inside the ISR, we do want security in this device, just like we want security in anything where we maintain accounts and functionality.
