Course Overview
Hi everybody, and welcome to this course, IT Outsourcing - Dealing With Outsourcing Risks. My name is Tommy van Schaik and I currently work for multiple organizations dealing with culture and outsourcing related projects. Running an outsourcing project provides some unique challenges and risks from a project management perspective. In this course we will look at the staff-related risk in an IT outsourcing project, learn to identify contract and vendor-related risks, and provide you with ways to mitigate communication-related risks in an IT outsourcing project. After this course you will be able to identify common risks to the success of outsourced projects so you can mitigate these risks before they have a chance to materialize. This course is also part of the IT outsourcing learning path where we will take you through the entire process of preparing, storing, running, and closing an outsourcing initiative. Alright, so let's go ahead and get started on this course, IT Outsourcing - Dealing With Outsourcing Risks, here at Pluralsight.

Dealing with Vendor and Contract Related Risks
Hi everybody, and welcome to this module, Dealing with Vendor and Contract-related risks in an outsourcing project. A lot of risks associated with outsourcing can be mitigated by the vendor contract and during the vendor selection phase. Finding the best vendor for your contract and creating a contract that suits your project is a determining factor in your outsourcing project, and it's important to be aware of the possible risks and how to mitigate them. So in this module we're going to cover the sourcing strategy, how to make sure that the sourcing strategy you use best fits your situation, how to make sure the vendor selection process is as effective as possible, how to avoid vendor lock-in, while you become dependent on one vendor more than you ideally want to, security and privacy-related risks, which are mostly mitigated in the contract, but also by monitoring afterwards, and legal risks like intellectual property and copyright. All right, so let's get started on this module.

Managing Communication Related Risks
Hi everybody, and welcome to this module Managing Communication-Related Risks. In this module we're going to talk about all the risks associated with an outsourcing project with regards to communications. Now as you might know, as a project manager, most issues in a project are communication related. But in this module we are going to focus just on the communication issues that are specific outsourcing projects. So we're going to process as follows. First we're going to look at managing communications, where we look at the different types of communications and how you should make sure that communication does not get worse over time, but gets better over time as your team is getting more used to working with each other. Then we'll look at mitigating some of the cultural risks that might occur in an outsourcing project when working with people from different cultures. And lastly, we'll look at managing expectations. Managing expectations is an important part of an outsourcing project and it is definitely a pitfall because expectations of an outsourcing project are usually too high, but it's up to the project manager to make sure that management is aware of the positive side, but also of the drawbacks of an outsourcing project. All right, so let's get started on this module on communication risks in an outsourcing project.
