What you'll learn
Incomplete, outdated, or scattered configuration information forces teams to make costly decisions blind: Approving risky changes, chasing incidents through unknown dependencies, and paying to maintain data nobody uses. In this course, ITIL® 4 Specialist PIC: Service Configuration Management (SCM), you’ll gain the ability to make accurate, reliable configuration information available when and where your organization needs it. First, you’ll explore the key concepts of the practice, including configuration items, CI lifecycle models, the service configuration model, and the CMDB. Next, you’ll discover the three processes of the practice: Managing a common approach to service configuration management; capturing, managing, and providing configuration information; and verifying configuration data. Finally, you’ll learn how to staff the practice, apply automation tools, work with partners and suppliers, and use the ITIL capability model, recommendations, and key metrics to develop and measure it. When you’re finished with this course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge of service configuration management needed to build a CMDB that people trust and use, without over-engineering it.
